Darkness Chan
UX / UI designer in Brisbane

At my core, I believe that design has the power to simplify complexity, create meaningful connections, and make the everyday better.  My passion is to create intuitive and human-centered solutions that not only look good but serve a real purpose. Design, to me, is more than aesthetics—it is about problem-solving, empathy, and innovation.

With nearly a decade of experience in the international city of Hong Kong, I have transitioned from graphic and multimedia design into UI/UX, working across industries such as urban development, event interactive solutions, design agencies, and telecommunications. These diverse experiences have conditioned my design style — grounding it in user needs, behavioral insights, and strategic thinking. I believe that great design starts with understanding people of their challenges, motivations, and the environments they navigate.

One of my guiding principles comes from Brenda Laurel: “A design isn’t finished until somebody is using it.” I apply this philosophy to every design choice I make — to ensure that what I am building is not only visually pleasing but also functional, accessible, and effective.
Beyond digital design, my passion for marine ecosystems has deeply influenced my mindset. In designing and maintaining reef aquariums, I have developed a greater appreciation for awareness concerning ecosystems, sustainability, and the delicate balance under which corals can thrive.
This awareness shapes my design strategy—where every element works together harmoniously to create a sustainable and cohesive experience.

Looking ahead, I am excited by the transformative potential of AI across industries. I believe agentic AI will redefine how we interact with digital experiences, optimizing efficiency while fostering innovation and sustainability. My goal is to integrate this emerging technology into human-centered design solutions that enhance both business and social impact.
